In 2006 Michael was elected to the Council of the Law Society to represent this constituency.
Prior to that and from 2001 Michael was the first Law Society Council Member elected to represent Residential Conveyancing. He was chair of the Property Section from 2004 to 2008.
He is now chair of the Regulatory Affairs Board and sits on various groups and committees including Rules & Ethics. He lectures on Conveyancing, Regulatory matters and the Legal Services Act 2007 and was made Honorary Professor of Law by University of West London in 2010
